Importing a Test Bank from a .zip File

If a colleague has created a test that you would also like to use, follow these steps to import the supplied zip file to create the test in your Blackboard course.

Instructions

  1. Begin by logging into the Blackboard course that you wish to import the test bank.
  2. In the Course Management section of the sidebar, click on Course Tools to expand the menu.
  3. Click on Tests, Surveys, and Pools.
  4. You should now be in the Test, Surveys and Pools Blackboard page; click on the Pools link.
  5. On the Pools page, click on Import Pool.
  6. You will be taken to the Pool Import page; click on Browse My Computer.
  7. A window will open for you to locate the file on your computer. This will vary depending on where you saved the test bank. If you recently downloaded it from the publisher, then it will be located in your Downloads folder.
  8. Once you have located the test bank .zip file, click the file, click open in the window, then click Submit in Blackboard.
  9. The next screen will show that the Pool Import Process has been completed. It is usually a pretty quick process. You can now click Ok in the bottom right of the page.
  10. On the next screen, you should see all of the pools that this .zip file contained. Each file is listed by name (usually broken down into chapters) and includes the number of questions.

Special Notes

Note on Test Bank Files

This guide applies only if the zip file you downloaded from the publisher is one that is already compatible with Blackboard. The process of obtaining a test bank is specific to each publisher (sometimes to even to individual textbooks from a publisher), and sometimes the file must be run through other software to put it into a format Blackboard will accept. If you try the process outlined here and receive an error, contact your publisher’s representative for more information. If your publisher requires a special tool in Blackboard and you cannot find it, notify the HelpDesk () that you need assistance.

Checking Your Item Pool

To check that your questions have imported correctly and are in the correct format, hover over the name of the question pool and click the down arrow (also called a chevron) and click edit.

For further help with any of these directions, if you have any questions, or would like any assistance, please contact the HelpDesk by email at or at 828-327-7000 ext. 4444.
