Send an Email to a Teams Channel

Sometimes you still need to send an email to the same group of people that are members of a Microsoft Team. Following the steps below, you can simultaneously send an email to a group and also post it in a Teams channel.

Using Channel Email Address

  1. Navigate to the Microsoft Team that you want to send an email to
  2. Hover over the channel name and click the ellipses
  3. Click Get email address

  1. Click the Copy button

  1. Paste this email address into an emails To: field along with any other groups or email addresses you want to send to.

Note that you may want to BCC the channel address when sending to other people so that others do not send emails to the channel. Only Team Owners can access the email address to a channel.

Using Teams Add-in in Outlook

Note that the steps below will not send the email simultaneously to the email recipients and the channel, but can be posted or shared in Teams after an email has been sent. Any email can be shared with an individual or channel in Teams using the Teams Outlook Add-in.

  1. From the Outlook Web App (in your browser), click the ellipses at the top right of any open email
  2. Click Share to Teams

  1. When the Share to Microsoft Teams dialog box opens, by default the participants in the email will be displayed as options for you to share with those people in Teams. Additionally, any recent locations or people you frequently share with will also be listed. Select one of the listed participants or type in the field to send the email to someone specifically. If you type an individual name in the field then the email will be shared in a Chat message, if you choose a channel then all members of the channel will be able to see the shared email.
  2. Once you’ve added everyone you’d like to share with, click the Share button.
