Copying a Course Into an Existing Course

Special Notes

  • Once you complete a course copy, you will receive a message at the top of the Blackboard window notifying you that the Course copy action has been queued. Within 30 minutes, you will receive an email when the process is complete. Wait until you receive this email and do NOT perform these course copy steps multiple times.
  • Once the course copy process has completed, navigate to the destination course and verify that all content is present. At this point you will need to remove any duplicate content (particularly in the Getting Started section) as well as cleanup and update dates for other items in the course.
  • Once the course copy is complete, be sure that there is only one copy of the Enrollment Verification Assignment in the course. If multiple copies exist after the course copy, please delete one, so that there is only one Enrollment Verification Assignment and one grade center column for this assignment.

Instructions

  1. Login to Blackboard and Navigate to the course you intend to copy.
  2. Click Packages and Utilities in the Course Management menu.
  3. Click Course Copy.
  1. Select Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course from the dropdown menu.
  1. In the Destination Course ID field you will need to select the Course ID for the course into which you wish to copy. This must be formatted exactly as Blackboard requires. To find a course’s Course ID, click Browse… next to the Destination Course ID textbox.
  2. In the pop-up window (or new tab) find the course that you want to copy into, select it, and then click Submit.

We must now select what materials are copied. If you want to do a full course copy, click the Select All button at the top. You can also click the Select All button and then uncheck any items you do not want to copy, in the case that you don’t want something copied from one course to the other.

It is recommended that you uncheck the Getting Started and Student Support Content Areas since these will contain the most up-to-date content as provided with the course template.

Most importantly, be sure NOT to select Availability, Duration, or Enrollment Options under the Settings checkbox. Additionally, do NOT check the box beside Include Enrollments in the Copy. Leave the defaults as selected and click the Submit button.
