Adding an Image (with alt. text) in PowerPoint

Written Instructions

If you have not done so, add the image to the slide on which you are working. Click on Insert on the top menu bar. There are several options available, depending on where the picture is saved.

  • To add image saved on your computer, click Pictures, then look for the image file on your computer or storage device. Select the image file and click open to upload the image.
  • To add an image saved on your OneDrive (PowerPoint may direct you to sign in using your CVCC credentials, if you have not already done so), or to do an online image search, click Online Pictures, then follow the prompts to search and upload an online picture.
  • To add a Screenshot, click the Screenshot icon. You can click on a previously taken screenshot from the pop-up menu here, or you can use the screen-clipping tool to capture an image on your screen to upload

When you have selected and positioned the picture on the PowerPoint slide, right-click on the picture to bring up a menu. Click on Format Picture.

  • In the menu that opens on the right side of the screen, select the multi-directional tool.
  • Click on Alt Text to expand that option.
  • If the image is not overly complex (like an infographic, graph, or chart), add simple alternative text in the description box and leave the title box blank. If the image is more complex, add a brief title, with a longer description of the image.
